Schedule

Main road 6 is one of the most important thoroughfares and is also one of the most popular travelling routes in Finland. The significance of the road as the international connection for eastern traffic continues to grow. The almost 50-kilometre road segment stretching from Lappeenranta to Imatra is one of the most heavily used parts of the road. It connects the central cities of South Karelia and is the most significant thoroughfare for commuting and other business-related travelling.

The main road will be completed in 2012

The section of the main road between Lappeenranta and Imatra will be constructed in two phases. The first phase, which was started in autumn 2007, consists of improving the road in the Lappeenranta area from the village of Kärki to Muukko, up to the start of the current four-lane section. This section will be completed in November 2010. The road section between Ahvenlampi in Joutseno and Mansikkala in Imatra will be constructed in the second phase, between 2009 and 2011. Final work on main road 6 will be carried out so that the road will be completed in 2012.

The 4.5-kilometre four-lane section of main road 6 which runs between the Muukko and Ahvenlampi graded interchanges was completed in 2003.
