During 2007-2012, main road 6 will be upgraded between Lappeenranta and Imatra to a four-lane, so-called mixed traffic road.
The project consists of
- 48 kilometres of main road
- six new graded interchanges and nine that will be reconstructed
- two level crossings to be demolished
- 22 kilometres of acoustic screening
- 10 kilometres of groundwater protection
- 35 kilometres of game fence
- median barrier or central reservation on the whole route
- road lighting on the whole route
- A bicycle and pedestrian passage network will be completed to cover the whole route.
The total cost of reconstructing main road 6 is approximately 177 million euros. The road construction work is government funded. The City of Lappeenranta is covering some of the costs of building the main road as well as the street junctions.
