The Viipurintie road graded interchange connects the Lappeenranta-Vainikkala road and the Viipurintie road to main road 6. The graded interchange is the entrance connection to Lappeenranta city when approaching from the east. The new, straight ramps were opened for traffic in September 2008.
The business area to the south of main road 6 has increased the amount of traffic on the Viipurintie road and at the graded interchange. Traffic lights to facilitate traffic were introduced on the Viipurintie road in autumn 2008. The City of Lappeenranta will upgrade the Viipurintie road in the direction of Vainikkala, as well as Eteläkatu, which is a part of a route for special transport.
The safety and connections of bicycle and pedestrian traffic will be improved by building underpasses. Noise protection will be built along the residential areas to the north of the graded interchange.
