The environmental effects of the main road 6 Lappeenranta-Imatra project construction work have been taken into account for the entire life cycle of the project. Environmental effects were taken account of in planning and will be taken account of in construction as well as maintenance.
The construction work on main road 6 between Lappeenranta and Imatra will have only minor effects on the landscape and the environment, because the road will be upgraded mainly on its current alignment.
A statutory assessment of environmental effects was carried out in the planning phase, covering the whole area of the Lappeenranta-Imatra project. Through this procedure, all environmental effects of the road project have been investigated and assessed. Environmental hazards caused by the project are being minimised in all phases of construction.
